Struggling with Drainage Issues in Commercial Kitchens or Processing Areas?
If you're dealing with standing water, slow drainage, or unsanitary conditions in your food and beverage facility, you're not alone. Many commercial kitchens, bottling plants, and restaurants operate on flat concrete slabs that were never designed for efficient drainage. And when water pools, it doesn’t just affect safety—it puts sanitation, compliance, and your bottom line at risk.
Whether it’s a converted retail space, an aging tile floor, or a dairy brick system, the underlying issue is often the same: a lack of proper slope and drainage. Over time, grout beds fail, harboring moisture, bacteria, and contaminants that degrade your floor—and your facility’s performance.
Why Floor Slope Matters in Food & Beverage Environments
Constant wash-downs, hot water, harsh chemicals, grease, and pallet jack traffic are all part of daily life in food production and kitchen environments. Urethane cementitious flooring systems like Resinwerks Bio-Cem are engineered to withstand these harsh conditions—but only if the substrate beneath is properly pitched.
To prevent water pooling and ensure safe, sanitary surfaces:
- Floors must slope at least 1/4” per foot
- There can be no flat spots or “bird baths”
- The underlying slope must match the performance of the floor system above
The Solution: Accu-Grade™ Urethane Cement Slope Mortar
Resinwerks Accu-Grade is a heavy-duty, urethane cementitious mortar designed specifically for pitching and sloping floors in food-grade environments. It provides a chemically compatible base for Bio-Cem flooring systems, ensuring a seamless and long-lasting finish.
Key Features:
- Dry, trowelable mix — Similar in feel to sandcastle-grade wet sand
- Holds slope without slumping before curing
- Up to 3” thick in a single lift, allowing slope runs of up to 12 feet
- Low-exotherm formula to prevent heat buildup
- Requires mortar mixer (not suitable for paddle drills)
Accu-Grade’s coarse aggregate blend makes it easy to screed and shape while creating a durable, non-shrinking base. Once cured, your Bio-Cem overlay bonds seamlessly to the new slope.
How to Slope Floors with Accu-Grade™

Step 1: Assess & Prep
- Identify drain locations and determine slope directions (to walls, apexes, or central drains)
- Prep the substrate to a CSP 3–5 profile
- Prime with Bio-Cem or Accu-Grade resin
Step 2: Layout Your Slope
- Use screws or pins to establish string lines from high to low points
- These string lines guide the slope and serve as screed references
Step 3: Apply the Mortar
- Mix Accu-Grade in a mortar mixer
- Pack material along string lines to form “ribs”
- Fill between ribs and screed to shape
- Trowel to desired finish and allow to cure
Step 4: Overlay with Bio-Cem
- Once cured, apply your Bio-Cem system over the pitched substrate
- Result: a seamless, high-performance floor with proper drainage
Material Estimation: How Much Do You Need?
To estimate how much Accu-Grade you’ll need:
Example Calculation:
- 2" slope over 8 feet = average 1" thickness
- Room size: 8 ft wide x 10 ft long
- Volume:
1"12"×8′×10′=6.66 cubic feet\frac{1"}{12"} \times 8' \times 10' = 6.66 \text{ cubic feet}12"1"×8′×10′=6.66 cubic feet
- Yield per kit = 0.6 cu. ft.
- Total kits needed =
6.660.6=11.1 kits\frac{6.66}{0.6} = 11.1 \text{ kits}0.66.66=11.1 kits
Ideal Applications
- Commercial kitchens & prep areas
- Food & beverage production facilities
- Breweries, dairies, bottling plants
- Restaurants in retail or retrofit spaces
