Velara™ for Commercial Flooring Applications

Velara gives any commercial space a distinctive look. Colors can be custom-matched to your environment, and the floor can be finished in everything from a solid color to concrete-effect or salt-and-pepper designs, giving designers wide creative freedom to build a one-of-a-kind space.

Velara’s resilient, comfortable finish also makes it one of our best systems for high foot-traffic areas. It works with sound-dampening mats, self-leveling underlayments and other commercial flooring underlayments, making it a good choice for everything from dental offices to flagship retail showrooms.

Base and Primer
Depending on the condition of the existing floor, installers may use a self-leveling underlayment or BioCem™ Urethane Cement as a base for Velara™. In every case, a primer must be installed before Velara™. Resinwerks offers several primers to suit the project: Vapor Barrier Epoxy or LevelGuard EP for 100% solids applications, or Rapid H2O EP, a fast-cure, water-based epoxy primer.

Installation and Finish
Velara™ BioPolymer must be placed by an approved Resinwerks Master Installer. All finishes depend on installation technique as well as environmental conditions. Once cured, Velara™ is top-coated with either Velara™ Matte Finish Urethane or HDC 100 Urethane (semi-gloss or satin).

Indoor Air Quality and Green Building
Every product in the system complies with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2 for VOC emissions. The system is eligible to contribute toward the following green building certifications:

  • USGBC LEED v4/v4.1: BD+C, ID+C, and Residential BD+C Multifamily
  • WELL Building Standard v2, Feature X06
  • ANSI/GBI 01-2019 Green Globes Assessment Protocol

Common Questions About Velara™

What is Velara™?

Velara™ is a high-end flooring system designed for contemporary spaces. This seamless, self-leveling resinous flooring system is made with 77% bio-based content and zero VOCs. It feels comfortable underfoot and dampens sound, comes in an almost unlimited range of colors and finishes, and meets CDPH v1.2 standards for LEED credit. It’s made in the USA and installed only by Resinwerks-certified installers.

What does bio-based mean?

77% of Velara’s formula comes from renewable, plant-derived materials instead of petroleum.

Where is Velara™ a good fit?

Hospitals, schools, offices, retail, hospitality and homes: anywhere that needs comfort underfoot, quieter rooms and a high-end look.

How is Velara™ different from Polyaspartics or Epoxy?

Epoxy cures hard and rigid. Velara is a flexible polyurethane, so it’s softer and quieter to walk on and has a warmer, more natural feel, while staying seamless and durable.

Is Velara™ safe for indoor air quality?

Yes. Velara is 100% solids with zero VOCs and no odor, and independent testing shows it meets California Department of Public Health Standard Method v1.2 for low emissions.

Does Velara™ qualify for LEED?

Yes. Velara can contribute to credits under USGBC LEED v4 and v4.1.

What colors and finishes are available?

An almost unlimited range: solid colors, dual-color blends, broadcast and suspended-aggregate effects, and architectural-concrete looks. It’s standard with a soft-touch matte finish, and satin or semi-gloss are also available.

How thick is it?

The standard system is about 80–90 mils (about 2 mm) thick. The Hybrid system, which adds a urethane cement base coat, is about 1/4 inch.

What is the Velara™ Hybrid System?

The Hybrid adds a BioCem™ urethane cement base coat under Velara. That gives a tough, moisture-tolerant foundation for slabs with higher moisture or more demanding conditions.

Can Velara™ go over an existing floor?

Yes, Velara can go over existing epoxy coatings, or over concrete only. It can also be used over various self-levelers and other products.

How long does installation take?

Flooring installation will depend on several factors, including the layout and total area of the existing project. The condition of the existing slab as well as surface preparation concerns can also impact installation times.

Sweep or dust-mop regularly and clean with a neutral-pH cleaner. Avoid harsh or high-pH chemicals.
